Common problems

Fixes for the issues people hit most often with Communication.

Common problems

"Needs a reply is empty, but I know I have unread mail"

Communication doesn't scan anything until you tell it to. Check three things:

  1. The account is actually connected: open Connections and confirm it says Connected, not Not connected.
  2. Monitoring is turned on for that source in Settings.
  3. You've added at least one label, folder or chat to watch, or a followed conversation, and then run a scan (Scan all, or Refresh from Needs a reply).

"Needs a reply came up blank"

If you clicked Needs a reply in the sidebar from another Communication page and landed on a page with no header, no counters and no filters, just the sidebar, refresh the page once. This is a known issue and doesn't lose any data; it just needs one reload to clear. See Needs a reply for more.

"Follow a conversation says there are no matches"

This means the account you picked doesn't have anything matching your search yet, most often because the mailbox or chat you connected is brand new and empty. Try a broader search, or wait until a message has actually landed in that account, then try again.

"I don't see a way to forward a message"

Forwarding isn't available yet for Gmail, Outlook or IMAP. The workaround is to copy the message content into a new email.

"I can't reply inside the same thread"

Only Outlook supports replying inside an existing thread today. Gmail and IMAP replies go out as a new message. This doesn't affect the recipient's ability to follow the conversation; it just won't be grouped the same way in your own Sent folder.

"WhatsApp won't let me do anything"

WhatsApp is a preview connection right now. Wait for it to move out of "coming soon" before relying on it for real conversations.

"A drafted reply doesn't sound right"

Open the item in Needs a reply and edit the draft before sending it. Approving a draft as-is is never required. If the source thread or sender consistently produces bad drafts, remove it as a followed conversation and reply manually instead, or narrow what it's watching in Settings.

"I connected an account under the wrong workspace or project"

Your mailbox and chat connections belong to your account or your workspace, not to a single project. If you meant to connect it somewhere else, disconnect it from Connections, switch to the right workspace, and connect it again there.
